On Saturday, February 8th, I will be leaving Cincinnati to take a 13+ hour plane to Beijing. I will be spending a few days in Beijing before I start working to do some sight seeing and traveling. I plan to see the Great Wall and the Forbidden City, as well as other notable locations. After Beijing, I will be going to Chongqing to start working. I hope to do some traveling when I have some free time. My Mandarin is coming along and I would like to have a good understanding of it someday.
This is my first post on this blog and to me, it makes sense that I use it to explain what's going on. I've accepted a co-op that will have me working as a teacher's assistant for multiple classes at Chongqing University. The plan is that the students there will be taught in English so that during their fifth year, they can come to the University of Cincinnati and get a degree from both Chongqing University and the University of Cincinnati. The way that the program works is very similar to that of the Mechanical Engineers here at UC. My role in all of this is to help make sure that the students are understanding the material and to also give them a bit of an American experience.
In terms of preparation, there is a lot that must be done. I've been working on packing and preparing myself for most situations. International travel is not the simplest of things and I learning first hand. There is so much preparation that is required for things to go properly. But I look forward to seeing another culture and I know it will be worth it. I cannot wait to go over |
